Computer numeric control (CNC) machines are electro-mechanical devices that manipulate machine shop tools using computer programming inputs. CNC is one of two common methods (3D printing is the other) to generate product (typically metal or plastic) from a digital software file. CNC is a subtractive technique; excess material is removed in manufacturing the final product.
