The Beige Box operates as a node in an Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) network. ITS is the dynamic interaction of traffic control infrastructure and vehicles to safely maximize road throughput. The Beige box uses sensor and communications technologies to optimize throughput of vehicles and pedestrians at an intersection while also providing broadband wireless hotspot services.
