NXP Taginfo app just doesn't read tags on iphone

We're just starting out and are trying to read tags with phones.

We downloaded and ran Taginfo on Android phones and it just works (after turning on NFC in settings)

Downloading and running the Taginfo app on 3 different iPhones - and nothing happens. It launches, wait for a tag, but nothing we do can get any read to happen.

Is there something we're missing (like turning on NFC on Android)?

Hi to all,

I have any problems with Iphone too.

In my case, the Iphone doesn't read the NDEF memory of NT3h2111 Ntag I2c Plus.

I changed the Ntag with NT3H2211 (or 1211) and Iphone can read the tag.

The antenna is the same and the app is NFC TagInfo.

The difference is the NDEF memory capacity (1KByte against 2KByte).

Is it possible that Iphone can't read 1KByte NDEF memory?

Any suggestion?

Android have no problems.

Thank you!

Have a nice day!

Hi Luca,

Your iPhone should have no problems reading 1KByte of data or more - I've already tried it with 8KByte of data without any issue.

Did you already check with another APP or an Android phone whether the contents of the tag contains a proper NDEF message?

Can you share the raw tag contents? For example, using an Android phone running the NXP APP Tag Info.

Best,
Dries.

Hi Dries, thanks for reply.

I tried to reset the tag with NTag I2C Demo app for android.

Now it works, you are right!

However It's strange becouse Android never had reading problems.

Thanks!

Have a nice day!

Dear Dave Bush,

I would also recommend to verify that the format of the card is NDEF and that is have stored an NDEF Message, IOS allows only to read NDEF messages from NDEF formatted cards,  some cards like smartcards used in transport or other applications cannot be read with Iphone,  you do not have to activate the NFC, once the application is running the NFC reader of the phone starts polling, this is a difference from android that you can turn on of off the NFC module at any time.

hope this helps your question.

Ahhh. Thank you.
On Android you get the "ID" of the tag, so we've been testing with empty tags.
From this it looks like we have to put data in the tag.
We''ll try that and see how it goes.

Hi,

Sorry to hear this. My personal experience with iPhones is actually very good when it comes to NFC. Which iPhone model did you try? Did you see the iOS popup informing you can now scan a tag?

Best,
Dries.

No nothing like that. The app just launched and said ready to Scan - and that was it,

Ok. Here are my screenshots when I use the APP:

After launching "NFC TagInfo", pastedImage_1.png

I just click on "Scan & Launch" pastedImage_2.png

Then the popup comes, pastedImage_3.png

and I can tap with my phone the tag, which is instantly read.

Can you share your screenshots?
