I am questioning a potential vendor who is trying to explain to me that buying MIFARE DESFire EV3 cards from vendor A vs vendor B might have significant price differences due to card "quality" and the card's ability to transfer data reliably to/from the reader. I'm told that unless the card is designed, manufactured and tested to meet industry standards, they cannot guarantee the card reader will work with the cards.
My understanding is that all MIFARE DESFIRE EV3 chips are the same, made by NXP, with exception of the 2k/4k/8k sizes. If I buy from vendor A at a rate 75% cheaper than vendor B, am I really getting a different quality card? I realize the PVC/plastic may be different, but the chipset inside should be the same, correct?
