I am looking for clarification regarding the absolute maximum current limits MPC5674F for an Infineon co‑processor (or MCU), specifically:

• Maximum absolute current per individual pin, and
• Maximum cumulative current per I/O bank / port group.

I have reviewed the datasheet, but the information seems fragmented across different sections (absolute maximum ratings, DC parameters, overload conditions), and I could not find a clear, consolidated specification for:

• sourcing/sinking current per pin, and
• total current limits per bank or port group.

Maximum analog input current per pin (IMAXA): −3 mA to +9 mA

These are absolute maximum ratings, not recommended operating conditions. They define the limits beyond which permanent damage may occur.

The omission is consistent with many automotive‑grade Power Architecture MCUs, where:

The digital I/O pads are designed for signaling rather than direct power drive.

The values you mentioned appear in Table 3 of the datasheet, where they are specified as “digital input” parameters rather than output parameters. According to AN3971, these values are related to injection currents on the pins, as explained in Section 10.2 of the application note. The remaining question, however, concerns the maximum output current capability of the pins, for which no explicit specification is provided.

When analyzing Table 15, output current values in the tens of milliamps range are presented, depending on the signal frequency. My challenge is not only to evaluate the pin drive capability across different operating conditions, but also to define appropriate derating margins for each of these conditions in a consistent and reliable way.
