We have a product with imx6ull in the market for around 8 years. It went into market with kernel 4.1.15(built using rocko branch Yocto). Can we upgrade the kernel version in the device? please suggest us for the kernel > 4.5.2 as the Yocto branch is now EOL.
When the last build was made (may be during 2017) using Yocto - Rocko branch setup, a image was created and successfully booted on the imx6ull device.
It went on with the same kernel and frequent updates w.r.t application.
Now the ask is to upgrade to a kernel version which should be grater than 4.5.2. We are clear that the yocto branch is EOL. so cannot proceed over this method.
Can the kernel with 4.5.(>2) be applied on the same device; consider the kernel is build from ubuntu PC and copied here.
Please suggest the better way to do it.
Hello,
Yes, you can migrate to your desire kernel version but I suggest the one used by NXP:

Hi Team,
From the link shared above, we could see that the kernel 4.19.325 is available. Also we could download it and see that the complete rootfs is available.
But the point for us different. We are looking for the kernel 4.19.325 along with the privilege to build it with the oldconfig changes and load it on the device.
Could we get any kernel packages alone to be build with the oldconfig (.config from the old kernel) and load/install the kernel on the device.
Please suggest.
Thanks,
Satya.
