Clarification on MIPI CSI-2 RAW12 Support – IMXRT1170-EVKB Interface with FPGA Camera

Hi Team,

We are currently interfacing the IMXRT1170-EVKB with an FPGA-based CMOS camera. The camera outputs a resolution of 2048 × 2048 pixels with 12-bit monochrome (RAW12) data over a 2-lane MIPI CSI-2 interface.

A custom PCB connector has been designed to interface the FPGA camera module with the IMXRT1170 board. While we are able to receive data, the CRC error bit is consistently set in the CSI-2 Error Register.

During further investigation, we reviewed the latest errata and noted the following entry:

ERR051248: VIDEO_MUX – Raw data and YUV422 (10-bit) from MIPI CSI not supported.

Before proceeding with additional debugging, we would like to confirm whether the current IMXRT1170–FPGA interface setup—specifically 2-lane MIPI CSI-2 transmission of RAW12 data—is supported and viable on this platform.

We previously raised a similar query and received feedback indicating that the configuration should be feasible. However, in light of the errata, we request confirmation to ensure that we are not troubleshooting a fundamentally unsupported configuration.

Previous Query: Interfacing IMRT1170-EVKB DevKit with a 12 bit pixel monochrome camera with 2 lane MIPI

Kindly confirm whether 2-lane MIPI CSI-2 RAW12 image data transfer is supported on the IMXRT1170.

Please let us know if any additional technical details are required from our side.

Regards,
Jyothish, @Ruthvik_R

Hi @jyothz,

Due to the Erratum that you mention, processing RAW12 data as you have set up will not be possible over a 2-lane MIPI CSI-2 interface. Please follow the workaround described on the Errata document for the RT1170 is possible:

"When using the MIPI_CSI2 interface, use a camera or video decoder with one of the supported data formats. Please refer to the MIPI_CSI2 chapter in the RM for the list of supported data formats.
Use the parallel CSI instead. The parallel CSI interface is not affected and supports more data formats than the MIPI_CSI2. Please refer to the CSI chapter in the RM for the list of supported data formats."

BR,
Edwin.
