Github Copilot Plugin on MCUXpresso IDE

Hi everyone,

I have been using MCUXpresso IDE for some time on our microcontroller project and use if for debugging on the target, too.

Some time ago we started working with Github Copilot. However, the official plugin cannot be installed, supposingly because most current MCUXpresso IDE 2025-06 is running on 2023 core runtime of eclipse, which does not fullfil copilot requirement of eclipse version 2024-03 or newer.

Can you provide a workaround or tell if an update is planned?

If others are interested in plugin support, it might be nice if you give a thumbs up or anything

You may consider using MCUXpresso for VS Code, which supports AI extensions such as Copilot, Gemini, and others.

Hi Celeste,

Thanks for the recommendation. I already tried VSCode with the nxp plugin. However, I could not make it run.

We load our pre built .axf with a sdk example debug config for the imxrt1176 in MCUXpresso IDE. What is the migration path to VSCode?

Hello Julian,

The migration path for importing a project from MCUXpresso IDE to Visual Studio code is described in the next documentation.

After importing the project to Visual studio you could use the Binary Utilities option with the right click to create a .bin and then follow the steps to Flash the selected target, here is the link for the documentation Flash — MCUXpresso for VS Code documentation

As mentioned in other comment, a workaround is using the MCUXpresso for VScode with the AI extensions.
