What's the difference between lid or without lid?

Hello,

What's the difference between packaging type with lid or without lid part number in the part number ordering section?

As I understood from the datasheet of LS1043A, it is the heat spreader for die of processor.

However, in the section of 5(Thermal without lid) and 6(Thermal with lid), the drawing describes that the processor needs heat sink whether lid is applied or not.

What's the advantage of using it?

In order to adopt conduction cooling method, what's the better choice, lid or without lid?
