Menuconfig activation with latest scarthgap yocto-sdk?

How do I enable menuconfig task in yocto-sdk for Lasyerscaper processo (ls1028a)?

I am using https://github.com/nxp-qoriq/yocto-sdk/blob/scarthgap/ls-6.6.52-2.2.0.xml.

When launching:

bitbake -c menuconfig virtual/kernel

I get the following message:
ERROR: linux-qoriq-6.6.52+git-r0 do_menuconfig: do_menuconfig is disabled, please check KCONFIG_CONFIG_ENABLE_MENUCONFIG variable.

I have tried to insert:

KCONFIG_CONFIG_ENABLE_MENUCONFIG = "true"

in either conf/local.conf or at the conf/machine/<machine>.conf

but I always get the error message.

I see there is a check in the cml1.bbclass in poky/meta that checks for this variable definition.

By default, this variable seems not defined.

   the solution is:

1) Use devshell, like in:

MACHINE=<machine_name> bitbake -c devshell virtual/kernel
and then:
make menuconfig

2) Hack uboot-config.bbclass here:

# Disable menuconfig for multiple configs
d.setVar('KCONFIG_CONFIG_ENABLE_MENUCONFIG', "false") # set it to true

I don't know if the hack solution is recommended, but devshell is a way to bypass limitation imposed by SDK.

there had have some reported issues with the latest Scarthgap yocto-sdk on Layerscape, I suggest you to use the LLDP 6.1.55 instead of.
In any case, I will do the test on my side. In the meanwhile please do the next:
>> Set the next variable in local.conf
KCONFIG_CONFIG_ENABLE_MENUCONFIG = "1"
#try with 1 instead true
>> develop the next commands
bitbake -c clean virtual/kernel
bitbake -c menuconfig virtual/kernel

please let me know the results

I have a MACHINE defined in my own meta-layer.

There is a MACHINEOVERRIDES in my machine configuration:

MACHINEOVERRIDES =. "ls1028ardb:"

I have added the following lines to my conf/local.conf:

# Force enable kernel menuconfig (nuclear option)

KCONFIG_CONFIG_ENABLE_MENUCONFIG:<machine_name>:forcevariable = "1"

# Also force this setting

KERNEL_MENUCONFIG:<machine_name>:forcevariable = "1"

# Override for dig2lite specifically  

KCONFIG_CONFIG_ENABLE_MENUCONFIG:<machine_name>:forcevariable = "1"

And then I have tried:

bitbake -c clean virtual/kernel

MACHINE=<machine_name> bitbake -c menuconfig virtual/kernel
MACHINE=ls1028ardb bitbake -c menuconfig virtual/kernel

and both fail with:
linux-qoriq-6.6.52+git-r0 do_menuconfig: do_menuconfig is disabled, please check KCONFIG_CONFIG_ENABLE_MENUCONFIG variable.

   I have added:

KCONFIG_CONFIG_ENABLE_MENUCONFIG = "1"

  to my conf/local.conf as suggested.

   But I am still getting the same error.

I have made the test and I got the same errors as you.
Even enabling the menuconfig in the local.conf file.
Please use the LLDP.
I will send the errors to the apps team.

What do you exactly mean by "please use the LLDP".
I am currently using the LLDP indeed. Probably you mean use the "stable" Mickledore version of it?
