Ethernet Interface setup for LS1046ARDB

Hi,

I am trying to setup Ethernet interface for LS1046ARDB.

I am not using U-Boot.

I have basic boot code with necessary initialization and a dummy application. 

I would like to connect the board to a host PC to be able to perform read/write over ethernet.

Could you please help me with some pointers on getting started with this?

Any references from U-boot would also be helpful.

I also wanted to know if it is byte read/write.

And 

Is there a need to halt, is it asynchronous or on-demand?
