If I try to download the usbmem project handed with LPCXPresso Baseboard, I get the following error:

05: File 'usbmem.axf' load failure> Ef(9). Flash erase or write opeation aborted.

What can go wrong?

I've browsed the schematics, and I decided to connect a dedicated power supply with 5V to the measuring points GND and VIN. Other projects work properly, this one does not.

The amper meter of the power supply shows 120mA, now I'm pretty sure, it's not about current source.

I had read, in some other posts, that trying different USB cables had resolved problems like this.  I'm not saying it will resolve yours but you could give it a try.

I had the same problem.  Except that the error I was getting:

Error launching Debug\demo.axf
02: Failed on connect Ee(02).  Not connected to emulator.

I connected thru both the LPC-LINK and the USB port with the FTDI chip and I was able to flash and debug just fine.  I suspect your problem is the current supplied by the USB port.  Perhaps try connecting one to the side of the laptop and one to the port in the back.  If you have a desktop, try that as well.

What a relief :D  I thought I had some major problem.  I would have preferred to see EA provide an external 3.3V supply to power the board and would been happy to pay extra for the power supply.

First of all, can you connect OK to the LPCXpresso board if you do not have it plugged into the baseboard?

Yes, and as far as I experienced it works properly.

If so then I imagine that the most likely cause of your issue is power. Check that you are powering the system as per the instructions in the Embedded Artists baseboard user manual (available from http://www.embeddedartists.com/support/) - in other words you need to have a power source (USB) connected to the baseboard, as well as the USB connection to the LPCXpresso LPC-Link/MCU board.

Yes, I had read that and I did it that way. One USB cable to LPC-Link and one to the USB plug of the FTDI chip. I wasn't sure, whether my laptop dock is able to provide enough current so I bought a powered USB hub, but it still doesn't work.

J12 and J14 are also on the proper place, just like on the figures of baseboard manual.
