The concept of designing out the FTDI FT232 with the LPC134x is a neat one but then topic of vendor id arises; if I were to have a design that included usb is it first necessary to obtain a VID or are there generic numbers I can use?

Hello,

There are resellers that offer low prices, but the ID remains of his company. Another option is to recycle the IDs of other devices that perform the same function, such as your mause, if your application is a mouse.

Something similar is done with MAC addresses.

<a href="http://www.mcselec.com/index.php?page=shop.product_details&flypage=shop.flypage&product_id=92&option...">USB id reseller</a> I think I have seen others, but I can not remember.

NXP should provide in their chips a generic ID.

During development you can generate any random USB vendor ID. Keep a higher value to reduce chance of conflicting with any existing IDs

But when you make a commercial product you will have to procure one - http://www.usb.org/developers/vendor/
