Newbie quesitons for LPCXpresso IDE

Hi All,

I am just moving over to ARM and LPCXpresso from a another manufacturer/ technology and I need to ask a few questions, some very newbie questions.

1) Does the free LPCXpresso cover all the NXP ARM range.  I am mainly interested interested in the Cortex M0 and M3, but would like to know what chips are covered or not.

2) Does the LPCXpresso IDE connect to any debugger, or only the NXP debugger?

3) Does the free LPCXpresso version have the same libaries as the full version but is on code limited to 256KB.

You need nothing other than a USB cable. The Debug Probe is built into ALL mbed boards and is known as CMSIS-DAP.

So do you mean I don't need a debugger it will work with the usb cable only.

Or yes any of the above debuggers will work with no additional modifications?

You don't need anything else. You can connect directly to the USB port and the debugger will recognise and will be able to debug your target.

Hi, sorry for the lack of details.  The board is below:

I am new to ARM and lpcxpresso so still learning.  So if I use lpcxpresso, and the board below, what debugger/ programmer would you recommend?  I see there is J-link, J-link 2 and code red + but not sure on whats good?  I am hobby level so not really after an expensive debugger/ programmer.  Over £100 pounds is pushing it.

Anyway if you could give your feedback on the pros and cons and how I would connect this debugger up to this board and lpcxpresso.  I am not sure if it is plug and play or changes are required.

The mbed boards support CMSIS-DAP, so yes, you can connect a debugger to the mbed board.

Ok thanks for your reply.

I have just bought a dev board with a NXP M3 chip on it.  The board is supposed to be programmed via USB using mbed but I prefer my code secure on my PC and not on the cloud.

Will the above mentioned debuggers in 2 fit on this board, or would I need to make an additional connection?
