Does anyone have a part number for a mating connect that fits J5 on the LPC-LINK board (10-pin JTAG connector).  A Digikey.com part number would be great.

I searched the web and Digikey using the part number shown in the "Getting Started with LPCXpress Guide", Page 39 "EHF-105-01-L-D".  That part number seems to be incorrect or there are multiple parts with that part number.  I get results for completely different connectors.

I see that you can buy a complete JTAG adapter cable from Embedded Artists here http://www.embeddedartists.com/products/acc/acc_jtag_adapter_kit.php but the shipping cost to the US is $26.00! That's more than the cable itself!  I could not find a US distributor that sells this cable so I prefer to make one myself.

Thanks.

This topic is pretty old but the information is still useful.  I found some more options for cables that might help people.

Embedded Artists sells the cables at a better price than Samtec, and has some adapter kits as well.  They are available via Digikey and Mouser for more ordering options.

NXP's LPC Link 2 for $20 comes with a 10-pin 1.27mm pitch cable, giving another option to using an LPCXpresso board for debugging an external device.

After looking through the Samtec, Digikey, Mouser and Newark web sites, I'd like to offer a few suggestions:

We are looking for a 10 position (two rows of 5), 1.27 mm pitch header. Ideally it would be keyed for polarity.

Executive Summary - get the FFSD-05-D-12.00-01-N cable and FTS-105-01-L-DV header from Newark and be careful how you plug in the cable.

Details -

1) Cable - use the 12" cable FFSD-05-D-12.00-01-N available from Digikey or Newark for about $10. It is keyed.

2) Header - Samtec has zillions of header options. Most of them are not available at the normal distributors; probably intended for special order. The headers that are keyed or shrouded take up considerable extra space, which defeats the purpose of using a small header in the first place. The minimal, non-keyed header FTS-105-01-L-DV (surface mount version) is available from Newark. $1.34

More details - here are some compatible headers, if you can find them:

EHF-105-01-SD (Ejector Header Through-Hole, Vertical, Keyed)
EHF-105-01-SD-RA (Ejector Header Through-Hole, Right-Angle, Keyed)
EHF-105-01-SD-SM-LC (Ejector Header Surface Mount with Locking Clip, Keyed)
FTSH-105-01-L-DV (Micro Header Surface Mount Vertical, Not Keyed)
FTSH-105-01-L-DH (Micro Header Surface Mount Horizontal, Not Keyed)
FTS-105-01-L-D (Through Hole Vertical, Not Keyed)
FTS-105-01-L-DV (Surface Mount Vertical, Not Keyed)

There are also SHF and ESHF series that look promising, but I didn't see any stock on them.

My headers and cables arrived. I must have been given the wrong part number for the headers; I wanted the polarised ones but I got ones similar to that on the LPCXpresso, but right-angled (FTSH-105-02-L-DH). The footprint is the same.

The "Target Connectors" page (see link below) on the keil/ARM web site recommends the using the connector cable FFSD-05-D-12.00-01-N, which is available from Digikey for $10.83. So far so good.

However it recommends using the matching connector EHF-105-01-L-D, also available from Digikey in through hole or surface mount.

There are a couple problems: 1) the connector pictured on the Keil web page is not the one in the catalog, 2) the one in the catalog has an ejector header, making it about 22 mm long, which defeats the whole purpose of having a small header, 3) Digikey has no stock on the short, simple header FTS-105-01-L-D, 4) I see no other compatible headers, also at Mouser.

Suggestions for a short header? Or am I missing something?

...Tom

I wanted a couple so I've ordered a small batch from UK Samtec distributor Toby Electronics, and should be able to make a few available at about half the Farnell price. I can order more if there is a demand for them. They have to be made in the USA, I should get them in about a week. I've also ordered some of the headers, but I've gone for the shrouded polarised ones.

$11.00 US for this small connector and ribbon cable makes me really grumpy. Think about it, that's more than 1/3 the code of the entire LPCXpresso board!  :(

Oh well, the LPCXpresso system is still a great deal for the money.  I guess I should not complain.....

The cable is an assembly from Samtec (Part #  FFSD-05-D-06.00-01-N-P07).
Digikey has them ..

Also available from Farnell as item 1667659:

It looks like the mating connector from Samtec would be the FFSD series. Digikey has prebuilt cable assemblies using that connector.

This part number looks like a 6" cable with connectors at each end:
FFSD-05-D-06.00-01-N

I haven't used any of these so YMMV.
