I have 2 LPCXpresso boards and I have noticed that they are not the same. On one there are components located at L1 & L2 just to the right of the processor on the "Link" board and on the other they are missing....what gives?

Hi All,
These coils are mainly needed if powering the LPC315x from a battery, since the LPClink runs through USB these coils are not needed.

Interesting...they must have thought they were needed at sometime before...or are they now being added? I can tell you which of the boards was mude first. Cost saving by NXP or oops?

The ones with coils were produced first. Since they are not needed, they are removed.

Kind regards,

Those parts on my LPC1114 board are also missing. I've looked at the datasheet for the LPC-Link micro LPC3154 - it has internal voltage regulators, both linear and switch-mode. As long as you power the LPC-Link debugger section off the USB port it will be fine as it uses the linear regulators in that mode ( the inductors are not needed). IIRC the current limit is about 80 mA (sourced from pin). Regards :)

Mine doesn't have those inductors too.  Works fine though.
