Has anyone purchased either the 17 RTOS examples book for the 1768 or the generic M3 book?  What is the difference between the two and what do you think of it?  Is it pratical and are the examples thorough?

If this board has more hardware why does it cost the same as the 1343?

Hi Rob,

Are we bored today???

Are you refering to UM10360 Rev. 2 - 19 August 2010?  What about chapters 12 and 13?

Nope, not bored - maybe a bit p...d off.
I know - that is not a professional attitude but the manuals just contained too much issues on first release and this type of issues are just too important to miss out on a review of the documents.

Chapter 1.4.1 in the user manual tells me the 1769 has a USB device/host/OTG interface, chapter 12 and 13 tell us there is no USB in this chip.

It took me less than 5 minutes of initial reading through the user manual to find this.

Meanwhile it looks like NXp is not responding to any of my remarks or questions about this.
Maybe it's time to scroll through my old NXP contacts and pull some strings - maybe that helps.

...(yes yes yes, in the user manual the USB host chapter does note show the 69 as having a USB host but according to other sections of the manual there us a host on the 69 also - long live NXP's documentation )

I have an old book from Richard Barry " Using the FreeRTOS Real Time Kernel" and a FreeRTOS user manual - both are for older version.
Richard has a good writing style and his books contain lots of userful information.

If you want a good deal you should buy the lpc17xx book together with the Reference manual for $ 55,-. The reference manual is almost a must if you want to get the most out of FreeRTOS.

Reading from his website: the M3 edition contains 16 examples available as IAR projects. The lpc17xx contains 16 examples specifically for the lpc17xx, available as LPCXpresso projects.
If you are using the LPCXpresso tools I suggest the lpc17xx version of the book.

If with this board you mean the lpc1769 LPCXpresso board, and the LPCXpresso 1343 board as the other one, then the answer is that this is mainly due to prices that have been agreed between different parties.

At the present time, there seem to be no 1768 LPCExpresso boards available.

John, just take the lpc1769 board. The 69 is just a 120 MHz version of the 68 (yes yes yes, in the user manual the USB host chapter does note show the 69 as having a USB host but according to other sections of the manual there us a host on the 69 also - long live NXP's documentation )

Hai,
I have recently bought both user manual and ref manual. As a beginner in RTOS i understood a lot of RTOS concepts :) and practical usage scenarios with FreeRTOS.:)
The examples are well commented and well explained. The book was accompanied with source code for all the 18 examples for lpc1768 which were explained in the user manual. The examples are more generic in nature. The output could be seen in lpcxpresso console window.
The Reference manual is a nice book which lists all the available API functions with illustrated examples of how to use them.
I suggest you to buy these books. You will not regret it.
(Note: FreeRTOS is free to use. The books could cost roughly about 1 % of the commercial version of the FreeRTOS, called OpenRTOS...).
I am not 'advertising'. I got the benefit. I suggest these books for anyone who wants to start with FreeRTOS or RTOS in general.

The table of contents are provided on the http://www.freertos.org site, and NXP themselves supply a summary pdf:

I bought both versions - actually I thought my first order was for the NXP LCP17xx version but I got the order wrong and received the 'generic' version so had to then order the correct version.

The NXP version gives some step by step instructions for using the LPCExpresso environment to get a simple FreeRTOS demo working. There are versions of the simple example for both the 1768 and the 1343 devices but the remaining examples target only the 1768 but it is not too difficult to adapt them to the 1343.

At the present time, there seem to be no 1768 LPCExpresso boards available. I have used an mbed board by downloading .bin files from LPCExpresso but there is no debug support.
