I did a forum site search for Can Bus Transceivers and came up blank.  I thought that I had seen a post for transceivers but could not find it.:confused:

Zero do you have any recommendations?:)

I'm not looking for CAN transceiver.. the TJA1050 is fine for that.

What I'm trying to find is anyone with stock of the SI9243. That's a K-Line transceiver for pre-canbus systems..

Even today NXP CAN transceiver 'Selection guide' shows a min. supply voltage of 4.5V (TJA1042) :eek::eek:

I don't understand that, but obviously everyone who needs transceivers for a 3.3V systems is buying them somewhere else :)

The cheap TJA1040's work great if powered with a solid 5v supply.

However, if you are trying to make a USB Vbus powered device, they can only work up to a point.

My USB Vbus measures only 4.18v. This is way outside the TJA1040's operating spec, but it seems to work up to 500kbps on a really short length CAN bus.

To get 1Mbps, I have to power the TJA1040 with 5v from an external supply, then it works quite well.

So Zero's recommendation of using the TI SN65xx transceiver is well worth considering.

Thanks for that information.  The standby mode on the TJA1040 is what interests me most on that transceiver.

I'm using the TJA1040 in a lotto of design's it's a very nice driver, and do not need any filtering on the CAN-Bus (even if you have to be EMC conform to Automotive limit's) thanks to the very good symmetry and the Split pin.
