Catch a running system with LPCXpresso?

Can I catch a system without first downloading the code?   My LPCXpresso is listed as a DFU device as expected.   How do I cause the LPCXpresso code to get installed in the DFU and have it stop a target device?

I want to plug into my target device and hit the "suspend" button and be able to look at the state of the machine.   Is this possible?
