It goes something like this - as far as I know - but please correct me if I am wrong....
Many, many moons ago, in the 8051 days, "Koningklike Phillips Halfgeleiers" or "Royal Phillips Semiconductors" had some 8051 compatible chips that was named something like P89LPC9351....
First P was for Phillips
LP was for Low Power
C was for CMOS
thus LPC = Low Power CMOS
Suppose the LPC just stuck?
