USB 2.0 High speed

Hi All

I note that the the Kinetis Product brief states that the K60 supports full and high speed USB 2.0.

However the user's manual talks only about low and full speed. The register set and code is almost identical to the USB controller in the Coldfire V2 parts (low and full speed USB).

Is the product brief at fault or is there a further mode that can be selected??

Regards

Mark

Hi Mark,

I believe high speed USB 2.0 on Kinetis can be implemented with external PHY only. It will required 60MHz clock as well.

Alex

Hi Alex

Do you have any references to this? I can imagine that an external transceiver is necessary but I haven't seen that the controller itself works in high speed mode.

Hi Mark,

I didn't look into USB module myself, however according to our FAE it can be implemented in future  versions of silicon. I don't think it can be done on evaluation board.

I believe you are refering  to the following brief notes:

• Support for off-chip HS/FS/LS transceiver:

**********************************************

• External ULPI transceiver supports high speed (480 Mbps), full speed, and low speed operation in host mode,andhigh-speed and full-speed operation in device mode

• Interface uses 8-bit single-data-rate ULPI data bus

• ULPI PHY supplies a 60 MHz USB reference clock input to the processor

Sincerely,

Alex

I have been told that the high speed feature is not available except with the 120 and 150 MHZ parts slated for November 2011. This is from the latest FAQ from freescale. Software drivers will also not be avaailable until that time. Freescale has been misleading customers about this part. I do not think it was intentional. There is deniability in their data sheets.
