Kinetis K40 Serial Card - COM Issue

I've defined SERIAL_CARD and undefined OSJTAG in the K40_tower.h file. However, I'm still unable to get data to output on my RS232 connector.

I have the RS232 connector connected to cable which then connects to a Serial to USB adpter. That adapter is plugged into my computer's USB port.

The funny thing is that I when I disconnect from the Tower Kit RS232 serial connector, I can connect to the COM port in HyperTerminal. When I reconnect to the RS2323 serial connector, I can no longer connect in Hyperterminal.

Suggestions please...

I figured it out after looking at the user manual I found here: http://cache.freescale.com/files/microcontrollers/doc/user_guide/TWRSERUM.pdf?fpsp=1

I moved jumper J16 from 1-2 to 3-4.

Also, the RS232 communication seems to only work when the tower kit is supplied with power from the programming card. If the tower is powered via the elevator card or the serial card, then the serial output does not work.
