I have a KL25Z board not recognized by the Windows 7 64-bit PC. I can get into the bootloader mode to update FW, but after power cycle the board was not detectable by the PC (no mbed drive mounted).
I had the board for a while and it was functioning fine until today. It started out that the board was recognizable and I can see the mbed drive. However my program (.bin) was not executing correctly. So I reloaded FW(20140530_k20dx128_kl25z_if_opensda.s19) via the BOOTLOADER mode. After the FW update, the board became undetectable by the PC. I can still get into the bootloader mode, the on board LED will flash fast 7-8 times then pause for 1 sec. I tried the same process (FW reload) using another KL25Z (again one that used to function well) and getting the same result (board nolonger recognizable). I tried another Windows 7 machine with no luck.
Any one had similar experience? Please help! Thanks in advance.
I follow the instruction. The problem is that when I hold reset and plug the board in, the on board LED will flash fast 7-8 times and pause for 1 sec. Even the bootloader drive shows up, and I drag files to it, it does not seems to work properly. When I power down and back up in normal mode, the board could not be recognized. I tried to update the bootloader app to v1.11 and failed.
Any idea what does the fast blinking LED indicates?
Thanks,
Hi Rebecca,
if the board flashes that way, it means it has detected an error.
https://mcuoneclipse.com/2016/08/01/bricking_and_recovering_opensda_boards_in_windows_8_and_10/ shows a list of error codes.
So when you copy the firmware file, it won't flash an error code, only when you reboot the board normally?
Can you try with the attached one (P&E)?
Erich
Hi Eric,
My board symptom matches well on what you describe in the video "Bricking and unbricking opensSDA with win 8 and 10".
I tried to follow your solution by enable the setting of "Computer Configuration \ Administrative Templates \ Windows Components \ Search \ Do not allow locations on removable drives to be added to libraries". The problem now is I am using Window 7 and I don't see "Do not allow locations on removable drives to be added to libraries" in the group policy editor. What should I do? thanks!
Hi Rebecca,
that setting is probably only available on Win8/10.
Have you:
- disabled any virus scanner/fire walls
- disabled any explorer extensions
- unzipped the file
- copied the file with the cmd.exe (command prompt)
?
I recommend that you try it with another Windows 7 machine, as I think your machine has some specific settings which try to write to the device in a unexpected way.
I hope this helps,
Erich
Hi Rebecca,
Make sure you extract the firmware file from the archive. Use the DOS shell/cmd copy command to copy the file as some explorer extensions can cause problems. Additionally you might turn off any firewalls/virus scanners as they could cause issues during the copy.
I hope this helps,
Erich
Hi Eric, the PEmicro site if back up now. I was able to download the latest Bootloader app. But I still stuck at when I hold the RESET while plug into the board to go into bootloader mode, the LED blinks fast 7-8 times then pause. Even the boothloader drive shows up, and I can drag files to it. It doesn't seem to work. When I power off and on in normal mode, the board will not be recognized. What does it mean when the LED blink fast and pause? I even reinstall the driver with no difference.
THanks,
Hi Eric, thanks for the quick reply. I have tried the method you referenced to. When I pressed the reset button while powering on the board to get to the bootloader mode, the on board LED would flash very fast for 7-8 times then pause 1 sec. According to the instruction, the LED should blink at 1hz rate. If I plug the board to the PC without pressing the reset button, the board would not be recognized and the LED stays off. Any idea what's the issue here?
BTW, the PEmicro site is down. anywhere else I can download the latest bootloader?
Thanks again.
