FRDM KL43z not showing up on computer.

I am trying to follow the OpenSDA directions and my device will not show up as an MSD and will not go into bootloader mode. I am using windows 8, downloaded the PE drivers, and not sure what else I am missing for getting this to work. Any suggestions?

It was a cable issue. Used a different cable and it worked fine.

Hi Andrew,

can you see the "PEMicro OpenSDA Debug Driver" on the device manager window after you connected the USB cable to the FRDM board?

If you can see it, the "BOOTLOADER" MSD will appear when connected the cable with pushing the reset switch.
Didn't you go to this stage?

Anyway to use MSD, you should update the bootloader firmware on Windows 7 PC.

After connecting the device via USB, the PEMICRO OpenSDA Debug Driver does not appear.  Is this something I am missing on windows? I have installed the PE Windows USB Drivers on windows 8.

Hi Andrew,

let me confirm. Did you got the PEDriver from P&E Microcomputer Systems of which title is as the following?

Windows USB Drivers 

Download 「PEDrivers_install.exe」 for manual install.

Version 11.1, updated November 2, 2012.

I could have installed it successfully on both Windows8 and Windows7. You would not go further until the driver was installed.

I cannot guess the reason why you failed to install it.

I have installed that driver on my C drive. All of the text logs I have looked in say the driver install was successful as well. When I connect the device, the PEMicro OpenSDA Debug Driver does not show up. Is it a separate driver I need to install?

Everything is there. I have uninstalled and re-installed the driver 3 times as well. No luck. Do I need to open one of those files to get the driver to work? Or for the board to be recognized?

Hello Andrew:

I would like to help. Please answer some questions:

1) Do you see something under Ports (COM & LPT) in Device Manager?

2) The FRDM-KL43Z has 2 USB ports. Which one are you using?

3) Do you see the green LED (D8) ON when connecting the board?

4) Cannot you enter BOOTLOADER mode? This is done by holding reset button pressed and connecting the OpenSDA USB port.

5) Have you tried with a different computer, especially one with Windows 7?

6) Does you PC have an antivirus? If so, try disabling it momentarily.

These are just generic questions, I am trying to understand better your issue, so please be specific.

let me confirm one more thing. I think it would be little possible thing but you didn't plug to wrong connector, did you?

I'm sorry to give a stupid confirmation.

Can you prepare Windows7 PC? You'd better try the same procedure on Windows7. To use OpenSDA (not v2) FRDM board on Windows8, the bootloader firmware update on Windows7 is mandatory. Anyway you must prepare the windows7 PC.

Or another scenario is your FRDM board would be a defeated part.  Can you exchange it?
