Is there a program to allow a third party company purchase of a USB VendorID/ProductID subrange for use on products with Freescale processors?

I ask this as we have been using FT245 USB parts for our previous products and they had a program where we could purchase a small range (10-100) of product ID codes for our exclusive use.

I notice that Freescale has a USB vendor ID, but I could not find mention of a program as I have described.

Hi Andy

Did you by chance get an answer to this question?

Some manufacturers do have such a program (Cypress, NXP, FTDI) but I don't know whether Freescale offers such an option. I believe their Vendor ID is 0x15a2 and I have noticed that the USB demos (the one I looked at) uses 0xe1ca, which seems a very high number and probably to avoid conflicts but only for internal testing!

Mark

I was told that as long as you don't conflict with other devices and as long you are not seeking USB Device certification, it is not a big issue.
If you are seeking USB device certification, then you must have your own VID/PID.

Using Freescales sounds reasonable, since I don't think they actually sell any USB devices.

I don't know how they allocate them, but 2-1000 decimal are not allocated, and perhaps never will be.
If you down load the usb.if from from usb.org and open it Excel you will have the current allocation.
At the bottom of the page click company list, rename to *.csv and open in Excel.

I need to borrow one soon myself.
Maybe we should start the "hot" vid/pid list.

BTW According to the list, xe1ca is totally bogus.  The highest listed one is x2304

I was just analysing the P&E USB Coldfire Multilink USB 2.0 communication (every Coldfire developer probably has [at least] one).

Interestingly, their vendor ID 0x1357 (the product is 0x0503) doesn't appear in the usb.csv which I just downloaded. How complete is the list????

Mark,

It seems they hand 'em out, which was my understanding, so if it is not on the list it's unused.  Good chance P&E didn't pay the 2K. I am sure you are not either, nor am I. Like I said , the only reason is if you want to use the USB logo.

I know many imports (like from Asia) just use knock offs.
I don't think they can do spit if you use a non-allocated one.
How about 0xDEAD 0xBEEF for your vid/pid?

Form the web site:
Getting a Vendor ID

If you are a new USB product developer looking to get a vendor ID for your company, there are two preferred options for doing this:

1) Become a member of the USB-IF. Among the many benefits of being a member is the assignment of a vendor ID to your company (if one has not been previously assigned). The annual membership fee is US$4,000. Download the membership application.

2) Become a USB-IF non-member logo licensee. Logo licensees are eligible to use the USB logo in conjunction with products that pass USB-IF compliance testing. In addition, a vendor ID is assigned to your company if one has not been previously assigned. The licensing fee is US$2,000 for a two year term (this fee is waived for USB-IF members). Click on the link to download the Logo Trademark License Agreement and vendor ID form in order to become a logo licensee. Your company must execute and return the Vendor ID form along with your USB-IF Trademark License Agreement. Please keep in mind that becoming a USB-IF Logo Licensee alone does not entitle your company to USB-IF membership benefits.

If you would like to purchase a vendor ID without signing the logo license agreement, the administration fee for this purchase is US$2,000. However, if you do not execute the logo license agreement, you are not authorized to use the USB logo in conjunction with your products regardless of their testing status.
