Standalone CFv2 chip programming solution for production, ideally free?

As the caffeine level in my blood stream shows, we are nearing our production deadline and this means we need to sort out some way of programming lots of boards (MCF52259) through the BDM connection.

We don't really want to have to buy the factory their own copy of CW and/or P&E's programmer if we can avoid it as both solutions weigh in around the $1000 mark, but we do need something solid and reliable that will stand up to a bit of use (EG programming 1000 boards in a run) which rules out the homebrew/DIY style OSBDM route.

So, is there a standalone gadget out there which can program a V2 Coldfire over the BDM port for less than $1000?

I know this thread is a bit old, but if you're looking for free, EzPort is totally easy to use...

You can even load StickOS (www.cpustick.com) onto any 52259 with a 48MHz crystal and then just connect to it via USB and use the "download" command (http://www.cpustick.com/stickos.htm#_Toc306801306) to load any other S19 file to a peer MCU -- you just have to connect SPI output from the 52259 running StickOS to the peer MCU EzPort (which can of course be another 52259).  I also have a "clone" command (http://www.cpustick.com/stickos.htm#_Toc306801305) in StickOS so any MPU running it can clone its flash to an equivalent peer MCU -- if you want to see how to do that, it's all in the skeleton source code project on the downloads page of the website.

I'm, really shocked EzPort doesn't have more support -- it's by far the easiest way to get bits onto a blank MCU, and it requires lots less pins than a BDM header...

P&E Microsystems has a stand-alone programmer that can program CF V2 parts here, for $900. I do not know if it will suit your needs, but it might be worth a look if you were unaware of it.

We had seen that, it looks like you can buy the P&E USB Multilink with a command-line programmer for ~$500, it's tethered to a PC but doesn't require a copy of CW so looks like we'll do that as at least the hardware is much cheaper ($250), the production guys have been known to plug them in backwards & blow them up :-O
