P&E Debugger compatability

Hi All,

I'm developing an application for a MPC5554 using Codewarrior V2.2 (5.9).  Is there debugging support in Codewarrior for the P&E Usb Multilink ppcnexus debugger?  Are there any other low cost debuggers I should be looking at along with P&E?

Thanks,

Bill

OK,  a couple more days have passed.  Let me re-phrase my question.

Do Freescale support engineers work here?  Is this the correct venue to get support on Freescale products or is there a better way that does not involve waiting days for a response?

The TI support forums seem to work pretty well but this forum appears to be dead.

Still looking for aome answers to basic questions.

Hi Bill,

Sorry about the delay.

The answer is yes, but sometimes it takes even couple of days to get the response especially duting the vacations period.

Another option to get the support is to submit a Service Request. https://www.freescale.com/webapp/servicerequest.create_SR.framework

This is usually faster in case a question is complex and requires some additional files (e.g. source files) to be sent.

Back to your original questions:

CodeWarrior for MPC55xx v2.2 is very old release and it should include P&E debugger. So you should be able to do basic debugging with P&E Multilink pod + ICDPPCNEXUS debugger.

You can also download the latest CodeWarrior for MPC55xx/56xx v2.8 evaluation  or special edition (128K code limit):

Hi all,

Back from vacation and I find the P&E PPC Nexus debugger on my desk waiting for me.  When I try to start the debugger I get an error message "error - invalid command line parameter.(INTERNAL_FLASH.ELF)".

It looks like it's trying to load a default filename (INTERNAL_FLASH.ELF) instead of my application (vcu_app.elf).  I've looked around and cannot find where to configure the file name that the debugger is trying to load.  Could someone point me to where I change this file name?

THanks again,

Bill

Please ignore the previous request - I found it in 'application' settings - build extras - arguments - scrolled all the way to the left out of view.

Thanks again,

And  now I find I've run into the next brick wall.  The P&E flash software will only program 128k and my app is already larger than that.

Is there a way to use the P&E PPCNEXUS in Codewarrior without using the P&E software?  I'd much rather use CW debugger as I have on other 8 bit projects without using the P&E external debugger,  and the extra $600 P&E wants to get past the 128k barrier is not nice to discover after I have already purchased their hardware.

Best,

Bill

I would first suggest that you do a search on the forums using the phrase "multilink" or a similar one to see if this information can be found in the forums. Or, you can file a service request. Click here to do that.
