How to send and receive package size?

Hi All,

I have trouble in creating a program using CAN connection. My project is for the the sender will call out for the respective receiver, then the receiver will then have to know the  size of the  message package from the sender ( may I know how to do this part?) The sender will send to receiver x number of packages it will then check sum to check if it is correct . If it is correct, it will  then complete the transmission.
