Serial Programmer For QB8

Hi ,

I am looking for a production serial programmer that I can use to program the QB4 and assemble later on the pcb, do we have any resources for this?

The reason i look for it is the cost and size of the board, we do not want to have mon08 connector on the board.

if i can not find something i will have to first design my production programmer.. :smileyhappy:

Thanks in advance for your kind interest..

Hello Future,

I think you are finding a socket programmer like our MP8011A.
It is a 1 to 8 socket programmer especially for mass production. It has a user friendly GUI, hardware "Start" push button and status LED for factory workers.

For more information, please visit:

BTW, QB4 actually uses 6 pins in MON08 interface and it could easily arrange them for in-circuit programming, e.g 2 x 3 layout. In this way, you may consider our inDART-One in-circuit programmers:

Thank you.

Hello,

As an alternative to the MON08 header, while still allowing ICP at "no cost", I usually allow for a row of 8 holes on the PCB.  For the QB/QT/QY series, these holes would connect to PTA0 through to PTA5, plus ground and Vcc.  I have made up an interface lead that connects to the MON08 ribbon lead, and the other end simply inserts in the row of holes, and is held in position during the programming process.  This arrangement seems to work quite well, and is far more convenient when surface mount packages are involved.

A further reason I dislike the MON08 header arrangement is that it directly exposes the pins of the device to potential damage, perhaps due to static discharge, and other over-voltage.  The PCB holes are a little less directly exposed.

Regards,
Mac

Hi Future,

You might be able to get Factory programming depending on the volume you want. Seek advice with your local FSL representative.

A more expensive but more flexible way for small production is to use production programmers available on the market. There are quite a few of them.

Cyclone Pro from P&E is one.
And I'm sure SofTec have theirs as well.
Other 3rd parties also have production programmers...

Cheers,
Alban.

Hi Alban,

First of all thank you for your prompt reply.. I am impressed  :smileyhappy:

Cyclone is In circuit programmer, the one I look for is that you put your MCU on the socket and program ..

We do not want to program in circuit. ( we do not have space for connector, and the BOM cost is extremely important)

Any suggestions?

I aim to please :smileywink:

On HC08 you have what is called programming adapters available with sockets.
It allows you to plug a programmer to this board and only program/debug devices.

See in the CodeWarrior debugger when you try to connect to a HC08 target.
You can get a picture of these adapters and how to connect the board.

Cheers,
Alban
