Selling programmers, is it legal?

Hello to all. I've been developing some "universal" programmer for the HC08 to enter monitor mode and program almost any mcu (or at least the ones I've been using). Along with that, I've developed a series of common evalutaion boards to test different peripherals (LCD, keyboard, 7 segments displays, buzzers, motors,...). All of them are for personal use (evaluation and development). The thing is that a friend of mine (that has little expierence in this mcu "field") asked me to sell him some of the boards and the programmer too. And what's more interesting is that another friend of his wants them too. So my question is, is it legal to sell the programmer (MON08) to someone, or is it Freescale's properpty?

Thanks.

Tom: Thanks for replying. The programmer is just a class 3 board that uses the serial (RS232) interface and the buffers along with a MAX232 voltage level translator. The one that any datasheet shows in the MON08 section to enter monitor mode. I found some schematics to build a class1 programmer but that is a future project. By now, I've developed a series of evaluation boards as I mentioned before from scratch (using some information found in websites and "my knowledge") and the programmer to enter monitor mode and program/debug any code to test a HC08 mcu (for example a JK3/JL3). I've just used the schematic from the datasheets an tried to design some "universal" programmer as almost any mcu that I've been testing has similar Monitor Mode Circuit so that it can be used with a "daughterboard" that includes the mcu (and its particular needed components that aren't present in the "mainboard" - the programmer-) and the same board can be connected to those evaluation boards.

The thing is that I don't know if the programmer shown in the datasheets (or at least the monitor mode circuit) can't be "copied" if you sell (and obtain profits from it) one of the programmers I mentioned as my friends and acquaintances continue to ask me to sell them those boards as they don't want to go through the designing and building process needed by the board. Everything I use to build those boards have been purchased from the local electronic component distributor, so there are no samples involved.

Thanks again.

I am not clear on what is going on here. Your programmer is a hardware design that uses the Freescale MONO8 software to do the programming, is that correct?
