S08QE8 with External Oscillator

I am designing with the 16 pin S08QE8 and plan to use an external oscillator (not a crystal or resonator).  Do I drive the EXTAL pin with the oscillator output and leave the XTAL pin hanging or is there another setup that should be used?

An additional consideration may be, that if ICSC2_EREFS bit is set to zero, the XTAL pin should be available as GPIO.

Good point. You do not need to "leave it hanging". You can do something useful with it.
