NTAG based Systems - Regulatory Testing Requirements - FCC / CE

Normally an RFID / NFC tag is a considered a passive device and FCC testing is not required.

However,

When you add a microcontroller and other peripherals that start clocking at different frequencies than the 13.56 carrier frequency, experience says that you get an unintentional radiator.

1. So the question is do systems as described above require FCC and/or CE Testing?

2. If not, please explain why these are not considered unintentional radiators?

3. Also - why does the the NTAG Demo board contain an FCC-ID: OWROM5569-NT322E.

Thanks for your help.

Hi David,

If a system involved MCU and oscillation circuit then FCC is required.
For our OM5569 demo set, it included two part, one is NTAG I2C plus board, and the other is LCD displayer which embedded with LCD display, MCU and sensor that required FCC certification.

Hope that makes sense,
Have a great day,
Kan
