I don't think there is an option for auto-update.
For the kernel, there is there is an option of choosing which kernel you want to build in the ltib menu (you can provide the path to your custom kernel tree).
Building redboot from sources is explained in the documentaion.
But in anycase, i think it's better to just use the kernel and bootloader that came along with the BSP (it's tested to work on board by freescale )
