Question: Beginner of iMX53 (Doc: i.MX53 START Linux BSP User Guide)

Hello All,

I am a new comer on the iMX53 platform and bought the iMX53 QSB for my development. I found the attached DVD was crashed. I searched a lot of information about the starter guide on iMX53 QSB. Many developer mentioned the document "i.MX53 START Linux BSP User Guide" is useful and important, but I fail to find it out on the Internet. Could anyone share it to me? And could you share the experience to me about the Linux development on the iMX53 QSB. Thank you very much, and have a good day.

Thank you for your help.

It is strange that I re-built the u-boot and u-image, and made the SD card again. The error is eliminated, and iMX53 can enter to the rootfs. Now, I download the latest version of U-Boot by using this command "git clone git://git.denx.de/u-boot.git" and try to build the U-Boot for iMX53. What should I consider if I build the U-Boot from the open source. Thank you.

In freescale version official release is u-boot 2009.08, for the latest version we have no release. So I think I could not provide you useful information:smileysad:.

Thank you all for your useful information. I just built the U-boot and kernel in the standalone environment by following the user guide. But I face other problems on the rootfs. I made the SD card following the chapter 7. "Using a Linux Host to Set Up an SD/MMC Card". After running the u-boot and kernel, it reports on the console:

  VFS: Cannot open root device "mmcblk0p1" or unknown-block(179,1)

  Please append a correct "root=" boot option; here are the available partitions:

  b300         3941376 mmcblk0 driver: mmcblk

I am checking what is the problem. The rootfs was downloaded "L2.6.35_11.09.01_ER_images_MX5X/rootfs.ext2.gz". I don't confirm my approach to be correct or not. I am reading other threads and try to find out the answer.

Hi Thomas,

The rootfs of L2.6.35_11.09.01_ER_images_MX5X/rootfs.ext2.gz is right and Our exports have tested. From your message , it's u-boot problem, but I can hardly catch where exactly the problem is. Would you mind providing your complete u-boot environment? I will help you check the problem step by step.

In the Yocto arena, I found this tutorial useful

Given by one of the embedded gurus, Chris Hallinan. It is not the easiest tutorial to follow, but Yocto is the new way to create a Linux System, so no way to avoid it :smileyhappy:

You can go to Freescale's official website http://www.freescale.com/webapp/sps/site/prod_summary.jsp?code=IMX53QSB to download the i.MX53QSB BSP. After you build the BSP succeed by LTIB , you can download the Image you have built to the board . If download finish ,you can boot the board in different ways after you giving the power supply. All details you can reference to the document "i.MX53_START_Linux_BSP_UserGuide.pdf". There's also demo Image in http://www.freescale.com/webapp/sps/site/prod_summary.jsp?code=IMX53QSB, you can have a try.
