Hello, I have several questions regarding to Vybrid new documentation.

In power consumption block(table 15) of newest datasheet http://cache.freescale.com/files/microcontrollers/doc/data_sheet/VYBRIDFSERIESEC.pdf?fpsp=1&WT_TYPE=...

RUN power consumption is 400(typical) - what makes it so big and how it was measured?  In other words: does it includes DDR consumption, and what can be
switched off to reduce it significally?

STOP mode consuption: difference between typical and maximum consumption is significant - does it includes DDR consumption, and if yes - which type and size was memory?

Is core powered from internal LDO or internal DCDC? Is it possible to power it from external 1.2V?

Thanks,

Alexander.

Hello Aleksandr,

The current consumption strongly depends on the application. Some raw data for room temperature:

use case 1. Baremetal dual core 399MHz/133MHz, basic program,... 1.2V branch 157mA, 3.3V branch 24mA

use case 2. Linux/MQX dual core 399MHz/133MHz, Video play, WebGL server, MCC,.... 1.2V branch 289mA, 1.5V branch DDR controller 126mA, 3.3V branch 30mA

In couple of days AN regarding this topic will be available.

/Jiri

Thanks everybody.

The only remaining question is why STOP mode numbers are so different.

Hello Alexander,

Different than what? - May you provide more details, please?

Regards, Naoum Gitnik.

Did this AN ever materialize?  if so, where is it?

For whatever it is worth, here are some emperical power comsumption numbers we are getting with Emcraft's Vybrid VF6 System-On-Module:

https://www.emcraft.com/som/vf6#overview

The measured power consumption is 340 mA at 3.3V. This is a for a simple test running shell in Linux. Ethernet MAC + on-module PHY are enabled in Linux (for 1 channel) but no substantial activity on the Ethernet. The on-module DDR3 is active (Linux runs from DDR, of course). The 3.3V power to the module is provided by a development basebooard that takes the power from the 5V USB and converts it to 3.3V so this adds to the above measurement too:

https://www.emcraft.com/som/vf6#starter-kit

No data on low-power modes, as of yet.

Dear Alexander,

The power consumption strongly depends on computation power used by a specific use case, and we do have engineering data for the most possible ones. Unfortunately, it may not be provided on this Community place but only via a local FAE, with a signed NDA.

All our data are only for the device itself, e.g. when DDR memory is used, only the DDR controller’s consumption is taken into account.

In all the Stop modes only built-in memory is used. Differences between typical and maximum values are due to the silicon process variations, temperature dependence, aging, etc.

The main configuration is single-rail, i.e. only 3.3V provided, the rest being generated by the internal linear regulators.

There is a way to power the core from external 1.2V source, which, among other aspects, is described in detail here - https://community.freescale.com/message/335416#335416 (BTW, the idea of having a Community is that the answers might be already there, even before you ask your question…). A relevant Application Note is already underway.

If you decide to call me for further details (BTW, I speak Russian fluently), the best time is Monday to Friday, between 10AM and 4PM (Central Time Zone).

Best regards, Naoum Gitnik.
