QorIQ RDB boards and the RCW override

Question Per Partner Lauterbach

I still think the RCW override should work board independently, but maybe SOC dependent.
But there seem to be additional parameters I don't know (yet):
In fact we have one T2080RDB and one T2080QDS board. If both boards are setup to get the RCW from the flash and we delete the RCW from the flash both systems won't come up.
An external debugger now still has the chance to bring them up with a temporary RCW. This works for the T2080QDS, but it doesn't work for the T2080RDB.
I really need to understand why there is such a difference and how we can solve it to bring up the SOC on every board using the temporary RCW override.

Also, if there is any documentation for this that would be helpful.

Hi Elizabeth

There is two different (but related) concepts here :

1- Overriding RCW values via JTAG

2. Providing a hard-coded RCW via JTAG

What the text is describing in your question is the second

one, i.e. booting a board with a hard-coded RCW via JTAG.

(you seem to use the term "temporary RCW"  to describe this)

Now the mechanism to provide a hard-coded RCW via JTAG

is SoC dependent (or rather, specific to a debug architecture).

However the mechanism is *not* board dependent.

Having said this, each board might need a different hard-coded

RCW to boot properly that reflects its design. Therefore a

hard-coded RCW value that works for T2080RDB  may not work

for T2080QDS board. To answer your question on this, this is

the reason why there is such difference.

If you provide the hard-coded RCW you used I can better explain

why it worked for one board but not for the other.

Is this question coming from Lauterbach staff ?

Let me know if I can be of further help.

Hi Elizabeth

Sounds good. Hope this helped them with

their questions.

Please feel free to forward my e-mail address to them if

they have more questions or want to send their rcw data

to discuss further. You probably see my e-mail address

in my profile. Let me know if you want me send you.
