Selecting the most appropriate RTOS depends a lot on the specifics of your application and your priorities (e.g., are you willing to spend $).

Having said that, I've found uC/OS-II to be a small, fast, fairly easy-to-use multitasker for the S12X. See http://www.micrium.com for more information. It's free for non-commercial use and in commercial applications is royalty-free. To learn the OS it is very helpful to get the book: http://www.amazon.com/MicroC-OS-II-Kernel-CD-ROM/dp/1578201039

A BSP for the EVB9S12XEP100 EVB is available for free download at the Micrium site. It isn't much trouble adapting the BSP to other S12X models. I've done it.
