TDA8754 as a regular 270Msps ADC

The TDA8754 is a video ADC IC, with a 270 Msps rate which is pretty good for the price it is being sold at the moment, and I'm working on my final year project which involves a high-speed ADC, and this IC could really fit in if I can make use of it.

So the question is:

Can this IC be used as a regular free-running ADC, without using the sync and clamp capabilities?

Is there any open-hardware project using this IC? The only thing I was able to find was the TDA8754 Demoboard (AN/10295_1)
