Hello All,
I am using MPC5554 microcontroller for my study purpose. I have a doubt regarding OPWFM and OPWM methods of eMIOS module. Where these methods are used? In my idea both of them can generate the same duty cycle and maximum period that can be achieved is also same. Can you specify the application area. In one of the document I found like for high speed motor application OPWFM is used. Why OPWM is not?
Thanks and Regards
Syam
Hey Syam,
OPWFM allows you to control the frequency. It uses the chosen eMIOS channels internal counter as its time base, it can reset this to zero to allow it to control the frequency.
OPWM does not allow you to control the frequency, just the pulse width and when the duty cycle of the PWM occurs within the period (freq) window. It can be used with a modulus counter bus as reference.

David
Hello David,
OPWM also allows to change the period of the signal. ie frequency.By changing the value of B1 register we can change the period of the signal . Is my concept correct ? I am not clear about the concept of the statement you have made "OPWFM allows you to control the frequency. It uses the chosen eMIOS channels internal counter as its time base, it can reset this to zero to allow it to control the frequency".
Can you explain little bit more ?
Hello David,
Thanks for your reply.
Can you mention some of the application areas where OPWFM is used ?Similarly for OPWM.
Thanks and Regards
Syam.
