Configuring I/O pin of PCA9539PW/Q900 I/O to tri-state

Would like to evaluate the attached breadboarded circuit.  The I/O on the PCA9539PW/Q900 would either be programmed to:

  1. be Low to turn on the MOSFET
  2. be tri-stated so that the input to the MOSFET floats and can be pulled up to +5V through the 100k resistor, to turn off the MOSFET.

Can the float in #2 be achieved by enabling the I/O as an input?

Are there any recommendations on how to program an I2C sequence onto a breadboard?

Apologies, for some reason the JPG that I attached didn't save clearly.  Please see attached instead.

When an I/O is configured as an input, inside of FETs Q1 and Q2 are off, creating a
high-impedance input. The input voltage may be raised above VDD to a maximum of 5.5 V.

For IIC sequence and timing please refer to datasheet page10 -17.
