My customer is using our two old chips MC68340AG25E and MC68340AG16E, they have MP for a long time, now their new engineers are considering new design with same chip. But they find the pin assignment described in our datasheet (below figure 1) didn’t match with real chip pin assignment, actual chip pin assignment should be the mirror of figure 1, which means below figure should be the bottom view of this chip. Customer’s MP board also demonstrate this issue, they expected us to give a check and formal statement. Any colleagues encounter such issue? any feedback is welcome.

Hi Ningning,
The 1992 reference manual has the pinout for the 144 ceramic QFP, not the 144 pin plastic LQFP. The pins appear to be reversed between the 2 parts, probably because one of them has the die mounted upside down. Go to the MC68340 product page on the NXP website and look in the Documentation section. Look for the ref manual updates. The 1995 update has the pinout for the LQFP package (called thin quad package back then). The 2006 update has a part number update that shows the ROHS parts. The MC68340AG versions are the ROHS equivalent of the MC68340PV package.
Please note to the customer that the 68340 is not recommended for new designs.

John Suchyta
