CodeWarrior & Debugger: Unable to open specified port

I have a DEMO9S12XDT board and a PE USB Multilink programmer (the red one). Programming the target under native Win7 works fine with CodeWarrior 5.1.

When I run the same SW and same HW under Linux->VirtualBox->Win7, running the debug command opens the True-Time Simulator & Real-Time Debugger window and then another window entitled "P&E HC(S)12 Connection Manager" where Interface and Port are correctly listed at first. If I press the Connect button in Connection Manager, it replaces the port info with "Undetected. Disconnect/Connect USB cable. Click Refresh List." This does not help. The Command sub-window in the Debugger program has a message "Unable to open specified port".

I see the USB Multilink 2.0 entry in Control panel Peripheral devices. The programmer has both blue and yellow LEDs illuminated.

Has anyone managed to get this working under VirtualBox?
