Zstar RD3152MMA7260Q Software update

Hello,     (first of all, sorry for my English, I am not very good in it)

I am using the Zstar RD3152MMA7260Q Demo Board to get X,Y,Z Data. It works fine, but the Zstar Board works only with a slow Rate from 30 Samples per second, I think.

I have read in the forum it is possible that the firmware from the Zstar boards can updated to support ZSTAR3 functionalities. Here the communication protocol count with a datarate from 120Hz.

Is it possible to update the Zstar Board SW to Ztar3 SW? How can I make it?

Thanks

Dominik

Hello Dominik

Yes, it is possible to upgrade the firmware of ZSTAR and ZSTAR2 to support ZSTAR3 functionalities!

You'll need two things:

1) The firmware for ZSTAR3. This package also includes code for ZSTAR and ZSTAR2 (see Note1 below)

2) A BDM-programmer, e.g. USBSPYDER08

In the firmware folder structure you'll have a folder named 'Sensor_ZStar', where the CW project is located (Sensor QG8.mcp).

In this project it's possible to select the desired target (e.g. ZSTAR1 or 2). Now compile and download!

I managed to upgrade the ZSTAR2 sensor board without any (major) problems.

Last thing: As far as I remember, the ZSTAR (MMA7260Q) do not have the BDM pins soldered on. It only has pads, so you need to do mount it yourself.

Regards

Zar

Note1:

Firmware for all ZSTAR boards can be downloaded here: FIRMWARE

I dont know yet if exist any update or other firmware available from some people with this condition for you... about datarate in 120Hz.

I know at çeast you can take the source code from the USB stick and can compile your own code. About the sensor board update... iam searching how to do this :smileywink:

Hi again... i read almost everything and i realize you can program everything of Zstar3... only for the sensor board, you need a external programmer... because the sensor baord don't have bootloader... ( i think not) .. doing this extra, will be the best, to update all system through USB :smileywink: but for now... nothing.

But for what you want, you just need to send to USB stick the commands to activate 120Hz and read the data... you can see that on Zstar GUI ...you can activate this mode! So you almost dont need "compile and program" just tell to the system to activate the 120 Hz mode!

I hope it will usefull for you!

Best regards
