Hi,

We are designing a device that will run on Android 13 OS with the i.MX 8M Mini. According to the datasheet it supports up to 1080p (1080*1920) 60fps display through MIPI DSI.

I assume that it could support 1440*1440 display with 60 fps as well since total number of pixels are the same for both but I wanted to be sure before we move forward.

Thanks.

Hello @balogul,

I hope you are doing well.

Yes, you are right, Your logic makes sense in terms of total pixel count.
In general, resolution support is determined by the display controller and the associated drivers.

->While the total pixel count might be the same for both 1080p (1080x1920) and 1440x1440 displays, there are other factors to consider, such as aspect ratio, pixel clock frequency, and the ability of the MIPI DSI interface to handle the desired resolution.

It is not supported, only supported pixel formats are mentioned in the above thread.

I hope this answers your query.

Thanks & Regards,

Hi @Sanket_Parekh,

Thank you for your response. I hope you are doing well too.

So, it also supports 1440*1440 pixel display as well, correct?

Thanks.

Hi,

I appreciate the help.

1080p means 1080*1920 pixels which is equal to the number of pixels for 1440*1440 display. Technically, if it supports one it should support the other as well.
So I would appreciate if you can double check this information.

Thanks.

Hello @balogul,

I hope you are doing well.

"According to the datasheet it supports up to 1080p (1080*1920) 60fps display through MIPI DSI."
->Yes, you are right it has the "Multimedia" subsystem that includes below features.

Video Processing Unit:
• 1080p60 VP9 Profile 0, 2 (10-bit)
• 1080p60 HEVC/H.265 Decoder
• 1080p60 AVC/H.264 Baseline, Main, High decoder
• 1080p60 VP8
• 1080p60 AVC/H.264 Encoder
• 1080p60 VP8
• TrustZone support

Graphic Processing Unit:
• GCNanoUltra for 3D acceleration
• GC320 for 2D acceleration

LCDIF Display Controller:
• Support up to 2 layers of overlay
• Support up to 1080p60 display through MIPI DSI

MIPI Interface:
• 4-lane MIPI CSI interface
• 4-lane MIPI DSI interface

Audio:
• S/PDIF input and output, including a new Raw Capture input mode
• Five synchronous audio interface (SAI) modules supporting I2S, AC97, TDM, codec/DSP, and DSD interfaces, including one SAI with 8 Tx and 8 Rx lanes, one SAI with 4 Tx and 4 Rx lanes, two SAI with 2 Tx and 2 Rx lanes, and one SAI with 1 Tx and 1Rx lane. Support over 20 channels of audio subject to I/O limitations.
• 8-Channel Pulse Density Modulation (PDM) input
