Hello,

We'll use two USBs, one USB 2.0 for LTE connection without port. One USB 3.0 for serial download mode.

  • Since i.MX8MP has USB 3.0, when we use it as USB 2.0 for LTE connection on the board, what should we do with the remaining open pins which are SSTX+/- SSRX+/- or any other pins for the USB 3.0?
  • What is the default boot mode for the i.MX8MP MPU? is it at Serial Download Mode?
  • What is the best practice for mass production? Product only has one eMMC and USB-1 3.0 for serial download mode.

Thank you in advance!

Hi @Wobaffet,

I hope you are doing well.
Please accept my apologies for the delay in response.

Please see the response to your queries below:

1. Since i.MX8MP has USB 3.0, when we use it as USB 2.0 for LTE connection on the board, what should we do with the remaining open pins which are SSTX+/- SSRX+/- or any other pins for the USB 3.0?
[NXP]: Kindly refer to Table 30. i.MX 8M Plus USB strapping recommendations of IMX8MPHDG document from below link
https://www.nxp.com/products/processors-and-microcontrollers/arm-processors/i-mx-applications-proces...

2. What is the default boot mode for the i.MX8MP MPU? is it at Serial Download Mode?
[NXP]: Default boot mode is dependent upon the configurations of the Boot mode pins. Kindly refer to the EVK schematic "8MPLUSLPD4-CPU" from the below link
https://www.nxp.com/design/development-boards/i-mx-evaluation-and-development-boards/evaluation-kit-...

3. What is the best practice for mass production? Product only has one eMMC and USB-1 3.0 for serial download mode.
[NXP]: On the first power-up, since the processor is totally empty, it will straight away go into the Serial Downloader mode irrespective of the Boot mode set. So, one can program the processor through USB Serial downloader mode.

Thanks & Regards,
Ritesh M Patel
