and maybe confirm the same for this new BSP at the same time.

@Claude:
SD-Card with my i.MX53 QSB is having the same number as yours (L2.6.35_11.01ER_77347A). I think you need to enter lucid only. If I have just installed updates on my QSB and it works fine.

Just my 2-cents worth...
Ubantu, by default, does not sets up root user when setting up. So if you tried to login root, naturally it will reject, independent of password you use.
You just use sudo to perform root priviledged operation. I was able to login lucid / lucid for both LCD and the console.
Since I deal with a few other systems (and I am not sitting in front of 53QSB right now) perhaps I am confused but I thought sudo (root priviledged command) with password lucid worked.
I have just check at my end,
it is "lucid" please try this I hope this will help you.
I haven't put the Freescale Linux BSP on the board, but on previous BSPs for other parts, the root password has been usually blank, so I would try that.
The lucid username/password combination is for the Ubuntu image. I'm not sure what the root password there is, but the lucid user has full sudo access, so you can do a sudo passwd root and change it.
From i.MX53_START_Linux_DemoImage_Readme.pdf:
Log in as lucid (not root), the password is lucid.
I have not tested L2.6.35_MX53_ER_1103_IMAGE yet but it might be the same.
