Hi,

We're having trouble deciding between PN5190 and PN7160.

We're looking at building an NFC reader for access systems, and want to support Mifare and ISO/IEC 14443. The specifications are very similar between above chipsets apart for the fact that one is a pure NFC Frontend and the other has its own firmware / operations.

What restrictions does it imply that the PN7160 has its own firmware? Is it only the "lower layers"/transport layers of NFC or do we risk to not be able to retrieve certain information from card/tags?

Kind regards

Johan

Hi @johangustafsson

You can compare the difference from the NFC reader page.  (product selector)

As you can see , the differences are, the read distance, host interface protocol, supply voltage, RF driver current, max output power... etc.

PN7160 is an NFC controller designed for integration in mobile devices and devices compliant with NFC standards. Applications include Mobile devices, Portable equipment, Consumer devices, smart home gateways...

PN5190 is a highly integrated performance full NFC forum-compliant frontend IC , application includes payment, physical access, eGov...
