Increase 13.56MHz RF Power in MFRC522

Hello everyone,

I'm working on a little project using:

  • NXP MFRC522 "arduino shield" (I know it may not be recommended for new designs, but it's a one piece personal project, so I'm using it anyways).
  • A bluemod+s50 BLE module, which has NFC ISO 14443-A compatible peripheral.
  • A W3102 NFC antenna, connectect to the BLE module.

The idea is to use the MFRC522 solely to wakeup the BLE module.

Reading the BLE module documentation, it says the peripheral features an  NFC-A listen mode operation, at 13,56MHz and 106 kbps bit rate, called SENSE mode. As I don't want to exchange data with the module, as I understand, all I need to do is to expose the module to a 13,56MHz NFC field, and the module will wakeup. That is working, but at a very short range.

I want to know how can I maximize the range. How can I increase the "Output Power" for the MFRC522, specifically?

Thanks.

Hello,

As this devices does not have DPC , it is not possible to achieve your request through software.  The way to increase the signal strength would be through the antenna design, nonetheless, as you are using a module from a third party the passive elements of the antenna are already defined in your board.

Sorry for the inconveniences this might cause you.
