From the description, there isn't any connection established.
Do you use NXP demo board or yourself designed board? If NXP demo board, which one?
Anyway sometimes we failed connect board in debug mode due to MCU comes out of reset and executes such code before the debugger can take control of the system, then the debugger will not be able to make a successful debug connection. for example:
1. MCU is in very low power mode
2. watchdog is enabled. Keep reset.
3. incorrect CPU clock setting
4. debug pins disabled.
etc.
The possible solutions:
- enter ISP mode, do mass erase. then try debug.
- change another debug interface for example Jlink, CMSIS-DAP. etc
- test the connection with creating a new project in a new workspace. test your board with changing another computer, cable, etc.
