My maiden flight was a flop. What if I skip the hardware for now, since I can never actually fly it?

There is technically no requirement to fly. The ideas and coding and proof of concept are most important. For example - This is why we allow something like the pixycam and an orange cutout to represent "fire " or a "person" - which is limited in it's capability - to represent a much more sophisticated vision system. Information about simulators is already available on GitBook: https://nxp.gitbook.io/hovergames/developerguide/simulation.
